Starting an audiophile collection is THIS simple: Research the best sounding versions of your favourite albums, and then buy them. The point of being an audiophile is to hear YOUR music sounding as good as possible. That endeavour is worth every penny; I have CDs, SACDs, DVD-As and BD-As that cost me the best part of 3 figures, which I don't regret springing for because I know I'll listen to them and love them. But buying an album which sounds good for its own sake is a waste of time. I see the appeal of owning one or two exceptionally recorded albums to hear your system at its best if you're in the mood to nerd out, but it shouldn't be the priority. Let's say my audiophile dream is to hear a perfect sounding version of Boston's self-titled debut. Such a thing doesn't and will never exist. So you have two options. You could play me an as-good-as-possible but still decidedly imperfect copy of Boston's self-titled debut, to which I might listen for a minute or two and then say, "that doesn't sound quite right; the drums are a bit muffled and it's all mids... Turn it off". Or you could play me a perfect-sounding version of the Eagles' Hotel California, to which I'll listen for one second and say "that's not right at all! Brad Delp sounds like Glenn Frey, the drums sound like a jazz kit and the guitars have no balls at all. Wait a fucking second..." Yeah, one of those things is a lot closer to my dream than the other.

Michael, nothing to do with this subject but what have you done with Gunter? I fear for his life and worry that he’s been savaged by your dogs and you’ve buried him in the garden. Please reassure me that he’s well and in good spirits and likely to be on your channel soon.

There’s zero point in listening to mono albums without a mono cartridge truthfully. The improvement in fidelity is astounding.

Having the women and young people is critical! Unfortunately, in the US I’ve seen these demographics mostly stop buying or havent been for a long time. Hopefully this trend you’re seeing is a positive and will happen in US too

Who grades the records for the O.B.C ?

Something's suspicious with that inner sleeve. It seems to have an ad for Simon and Garfunkel's 1968 album BOOKENDS on it. I fear your original 1959 six-eye disc has been placed in a 1968-era inner sleeve.

Michael, can I recommend a couple of early 70s obscure prog rock you might enjoy? Space Hymns by Rameses and 3 Parts to my Soul by Dr Z. Both are incredible listens and the Rameses is worth owning for the jacket alone 🙂

Hi Michael, the first record from Duke Ellington has Not the Original innersleeve, because the innersleeve shows the Simon and Garfunkel Album from 1965. 😉

Wow, Electric Sandwich habe ich vor einigen Jahren Mal live bei ihrem Jubiläumskonzert in Bonn gesehen. Die Platte in deinem Video habe ich leider nur als CD. Zudem noch die CD "Lava", die mir die Band als Dank für einen Zeitungsartikel, den ich über die Jungs seinerzeit geschrieben habe, geschenkt hat.

Klasse Platte..habe die in leider schlechtem Zustand auch….dafür aber glücklicherweise die Single On My Mind mit China drauf im Topzustand…klingen meist auch noch einen Tick besser die Singles..

Hi everybody, I am not an audiophile listener, I own a copy of the CD boxset and to my ears sounds fantastic. Bureau B is located in Hamburg, in the Altona district. Last year I went from Milan (I am Italian) to Hamburg for tourism and paid them a visit. Nice people, absolutely caring for the music. These boxsets should have a reissue in my opinion, I know they are sought after.

I love these streams. I am a big fan of deep house vinyl. Some of my favourite records in my collection are Blow your body by Herbest moon, Francois K remix, M.O.D* Presents Family Jam, 'Cocktail Chant' and All Nite Dub by Brent Laurence.

I've watched this episode several times. It's good to revisit. Volker has a true engineer's knowledge. I'd like to know what he thinks about the Yamaha Gt5000.
